A Historic Day

Duh. Any day that elects someone to the position of the President of the United States for at least the next 4 years is in my book a historic day. This has been a long and grueling campaign for all involved. Whoever loses will not be because of lack of effort, that's for sure.

This election is a number of firsts though. It is the first election featuring a black man. First election with a woman VP. First election where the total raised by just the two candidates exceeded 1 BILLION dollars. (Now I personally can think of MANY things that said billion should go to besides luxury tour buses and 30 second TV spots every commercial break.) This is also the first election in 24 years where a Clinton or Bush last name has not been on the ballot, although not for lack of trying on Hillary's part. This election is also supposed to break the record of 123 million voters, which was set in 2004, as over 130 million are expected to have voted by the night's end, including of course all the early ballots.

Obama was in Indiana after he voted today, and McCain is expected in Colorado and New Mexico this afternoon. My personal thinking is that it is done. There is nothing else left to say. There are no more commercials left to show, or debates to win, or mud to sling. What has been said over the past months is what we have to go on, and I truly hope that each candidate was sincere in all the promises for stability and change where needed.

No matter what the outcome today, or who you voted for, today is an historic day.
