And we are excited about a ball in NYC?

Tuesday, December 30, 2008

The ball drop in NYC is famous. But why? It is, after all, just a ball. Why not be a little more creative with what we ring in the new year with. These towns have outdone themselves:

Mechanicsburg, PA: They drop, what else, a wrench. They have dropped different items for the last 100 years representing its ties of fixing and mending (hence MECHANICSBURG)

Key West, FL: They drop three things, all quite odd. The first being a conch shell. Makes a little sense being from Florida. The second is a pirate wench in a ship's crow's nest. Okay, but the third takes the cake; the Sushi Drag Queen. I cannot explain that one.

Tallapossa,GA: An Opossum. Don't call the animal rights people, this particular opossum lives on thanks to the wonderful local taxidermy.

Bethlehem, PA: Anyone who know Bethlehem, PA should know what they drop. It is home to the Just Born Candy Co., and so they drop a peep. For those who do not know what a peep is, I pity you. This is not a normal sized peep though. This happens to be a 3.5 foot wide, 4 foot high yellow chick. Can you taste the marshmallowy goodness?

Happy New Year to everyone, no matter what you will be watching. Of course, if you you are like my parents who are (getting) old, they will probably be watching the back of their eyelids. (Just kidding M+D!)

You find the strangest useless but interesting factoids. Thanks for sharing!

BTW, Mom and Dad have more fun plans than we do! Expect a drunk dial from them around midnight our time!
