The Special Person???

Today is August 12th. You all know what that means, right? No? Well neither did I. Today, though, is "Middle Child's Day." What is this crazy day? Well, according to the national record, "Middle Child's Day" is the day to "...give a little well deserved recognition to the wonderful and special middle child of a family." Special person is right! (Just kidding C.)

Apparently there is a middle-child syndrome where the middle child constantly feels abandoned and left out. The first born, is well, the first born. It is supposedly a very special occasion for the parents and constantly has all the attention of the Mom and Dad.

The third born is and will always be the baby of the family. Many people feel as though the third child can do no harm (which in my family we know is not quite true). No matter what though, research tends to show that the first and third children are much more outgoing and extroverted than the middle child. The middle child tends to go about their life with little recognition compared to the other siblings.

Well, August 12th is here to change all that. It is here today that we celebrate the middle child, and to share some of the limelight from the other siblings to the 'special child'. There is no better way to end than with the end of the national record of "Middle Child's Day", so here is is:

"It is very fair and fitting that we celebrate the middle child and all of his or her accomplishments. If you are someone who knows a middle child, be extra sensitive to his or her needs today. Place him or her in the spotlight. If you are a middle child, tell the world about it. Go against your grain today. Be outspoken, and let the world know how wonderful it is to be a middle child. You truly are a wonderful and special person."
